Frequently Asked Questions

  • The beauty of therapy is that no two sessions will look the same. Usually, the first 1–2 sessions focus on assessing your concerns and for us to agree on what you would like to work on in therapy. This is also a good time for you to see if you think we are a good fit.

Once we agree on the focus of your therapy, we can begin to dig in. In some sessions, we may slow down to look at a particular situation causing you distress exploring your emotions, thoughts, and behaviours. In other sessions, we may identify beliefs about yourself or others that are getting in the way of you reaching your goals. We’ll practice skills that you can use to cope in session, so that you can use them outside of therapy.

Sessions are typically 50 minutes long. I use the remaining 10 minutes for record keeping and to prepare for the upcoming session.

  • This depends on your goals. Short-term therapy can be just a few sessions and can provide relief during a crisis. Long-term therapy can take a year or longer. Many clients make progress in therapy, take a break, and come back when it’s needed. As your needs evolve, you can adjust the regularity of our sessions.

  • Psychologists in private practice are not covered by MSP. Some clients have extended health benefits that provides some coverage for psychological services.

  • No, but I provide a receipt which you can submit to your insurance provider.

  • I do work with Korean speaking clients. Although my understanding of Korean is nearly at native level, I often mix both English and Korean during my sessions.

  • No, I am currently not accepting clients through ICBC or clients seeking therapy or assessment for any legal involvement. I am not able to provide independent medical assessments.

  • I understand that therapy is not accessible to many due to how costly it is. I reserve a portion of my practice to sliding-scale clients who cannot afford my current rate (e.g., low-income backgrounds, extenuating circumstances, newcomers to Canada).

If you need a reduced rate to access therapy, please include this in your message.
